Beware pretty Israeli girls with American accents, for they can convince you to spend more than you were planning. Although in her defence, she did help me find a Xmas gift for my mother, which was going to be the tricky part of Xmas shopping.

So, apparently the Muppets had a webshow a few years back. This is relevant to my interests. Also, the first one of the left is my favourite.

I'm trying burgers from scratch tomorrow; wish me luck.

I may be addicted to unpainted white metal minatures... not that I'm asking for an intervention or anything. Let's save that for something serious.

The Muppets have a YouTube channel. Takes me back years... Check it out

I have to seriously consider changing my LifeJournal default userpic as Adam Baldwin believe in Global Warming is a purely political undertaken. And he'd been seeming so smart up to that point.

Onyx Cafe in Cambridge. I have to visit it and check out whether their creamy mushrooms are as good as the ones I made using their recipe. Who would be interested?

I like summer fashion. Make of that what you will.

I have failed innumerable Real-Life sanity checks in the last fortnight... but madness makes for great art.

Lower than [info]te_hazazel's results, but still respectful... It would be higher if I'd included all the films I'd sat down to watch and then given up on.

It is not difficult to be nice to others.

It is not difficult to be polite.

It is not difficult to tell the truth.

It is not difficult to realize that not everyone reacts to things the same way.

It is not difficult to realize that although some thing may have been provided by an individual for communal use, this does not mean that the individual does not place value on the thing. Nor should it really be difficult to identify such a thing and treat it with some respect, or to contact the person who provided it and tell them about any problems.

It is remarkable easy to both make a mistake and point out a mistake. It is only somewhat harder to do so in a way that does not give offense. It is also not that difficult to realize that if someone else points out that we are being rude, that perhaps we may have crossed a line and that we should reconsider our actions.

It is difficult to reconsider our actions though. It calls for self-reflextivity, the ability to look at ourselves and admit that we are not perfect, that we do make mistakes. And, well, let's be honest, the person who believes themselves to be perfect is either a fool or not in their right mind. Those that approach perfection have usually acquired humility along the way. All of this means that is it is very difficult to apologize, as I well know, to say sorry and admit our wrongs.

Edit: Addendum - It is also not difficult to check our facts about things.

Occasionally you come across something that... well, you DON'T have to share, in fact people might thank you for not sharing it. But you share it anyway, because how else are you going to recruit people for the big ol' Cult of the Yellow Sign. What's that? Cult of Cthulthu? No, I prefer non-mass-media cosmic horrors when I can get them.

Thank you Caltex Naylor street for reminding me why you closing down is A GOOD THING! Calling in the guy who's on a day off before a sole-charge early morning, when there's other more practical options, not cool. Ah, well, at least it is money.

Happy note: don't you just love that feeling when you're planning a RPG campaign, and despite everything you've got it in mind, something just leaps out at you and smacks you across the face and says "Hullo, I'm your new campaign villain, because I'm just that cool. Now get gaming!"

It Abides, it Abides!

City of Stormreach is a cool book, newly arrived from the States. I was worried that some of the information inside would contradict what I already had planned, but I shouldn't have been. Keith Baker is a game design god, smart enough to leave some things open-ended while providing plenty of detail and flavour. In the only case of my plans not meshing with his ideas, it was a case of me deciding that while my stuff was good, his idea was just too cool to throw out and my one could be twisted like this to work that much better.

Carved into a massive sealed door, within a tomb-temple lost in the heart of a steaming jungle, in a nearly forgotten tongue:

Orbs circling in the sky,
Measures of the passing year,
Realms beyond the naked eye,
Signs in flesh to bear,
Lineages true, bound by wars,
Kingdoms far from these shores,

Underneath, crudely written in still fresh blood:

When they return, there will be no more!

So I ordered some books online last Thursday, and was told that they'd take about a month to arrive. This is cool, if I wanted them faster, I could have chosen to pay for faster shipping. But it was still nice to come home today and find the first of the books sitting in my mailbox.

Complete unrelated note: I know at least one person who'll be interested in this, if he hasn't already seen it.

Just got back from seeing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Good movie, but a few amused thoughts.

One is from a series of shots early in the first sequence to help establish location. I can see George Lucas laughing manically in post-production and screaming "Yes! Yes! More praire dogs! MORE!" while Steve Spielberg weeps piteously in the background. Lucas should be kept at least a mile from any project where CGI could possibly be used.

Two is worthy of spoiler tags )
